Update : 02 Sep 2017, 01:48 PM
The Bangladesh government has strongly protested the recent instances of Myanmar helicopters violating its airspace. In a diplomatic note sent to the Embassy of Myanmar in Dhaka on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs protested the repeated violations by a number of Myanmar helicopters on August 27-28 and September 1 this year. On Friday morning, Myanmar helicopters violated Bangladesh’s airspace near Ukhiya on three occasions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that these instances of incursion into Bangladesh airspace run contrary to the good neighbourly relation between the countries and could lead to an unwarranted situation. The ministry further emphasised that while Bangladesh has been cooperating with Myanmar in the security sector, such violations of sovereignty may affect the existing understanding and cooperation between the two countries. Bangladesh demanded that Myanmar take immediate measures to prevent the recurrence of such incursions in the future.
