Update : 03 Jun 2015, 06:21 AM

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up issues concerning Assam during the latter's two-day visit.

Just days ahead of Modi's visit in Bangladesh, Gogoi on Tuesday said Modi should draw the matter to bolster water and surface communication of Assam with Bangladesh.

He also emphasised utilising the geographical proximity in order to harvest optimum benefits in trade and commerce.

Gogoi requested the Indian PM to raise the issue of cross-border infiltration with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, reports The Statesman.

Modi has also been urged to discuss the issue related to deporting illegal infiltrators detected in Assam by the Foreigners' Tribunal.

Narendra Modi is set to pay a two-day official visit to Bangladesh on June 6 at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

This will be Modi’s first visit to Bangladesh.

During the visit, the two prime ministers will have official talks where the entire gamut of bilateral relations will be discussed.

During the visit, India and Bangladesh will scale up security, defence and connectivity ties and likely seal the Teesta water-sharing pact.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will accompany Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the tour.
