BNP wins 7 of 8 seats in Tangail, rebel secures one

47 candidates contested in the eight constituencies

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidates have unofficially won seven of the eight parliamentary seats in Tangail in the 13th National Parliament Election, while an independent rebel candidate from the party secured one seat.

Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Sharifa Haque announced the results at 2:45am on Friday.

In Tangail-1 (Madhupur-Dhanbari), BNP candidate Fakir Mahbub Anam won with 153,932 votes, defeating Jamaat candidate Muhammad Abdullahel Kafi, who received 94,462 votes. Voter turnout was 65.67% across 149 centres, with 5,955 ballots rejected.

In Tangail-2 (Bhuapur-Gopalpur), BNP’s Abdus Salam Pintu secured 198,213 votes, while Jamaat candidate Humayun Kabir obtained 60,871 votes. Turnout stood at 64.56% in 139 centres, and 5,555 votes were rejected.

In Tangail-3 (Ghatail), independent BNP rebel Lutfar Rahman Khan Azad was declared winner. Voter turnout was 61.84% across 123 centres, with 6,240 rejected ballots.

In Tangail-4 (Kalihati), BNP candidate Lutfar Rahman Matin won the seat. Turnout was 61.02% in 115 centres, with 403 ballots cancelled.

In Tangail-5 (Sadar), BNP central publicity secretary Sultan Salahuddin won with 131,279 votes. Jamaat’s Ahsan Habib Masud received 80,823 votes, while independent candidate Farhad Iqbal secured 69,408 votes. Of the 462,412 registered voters, 288,080 cast ballots, marking a 63.25% turnout. A total of 4,401 votes were rejected.

In Tangail-6 (Nagarpur-Delduar), BNP candidate Rabiul Awal Lavlu won with 150,952 votes, defeating Jamaat-e-Islami’s AKM Abdul Hamid, who received 91,914 votes. Turnout was 60.65% in 155 centres, with 5,725 rejected ballots.

In Tangail-7 (Mirzapur), BNP’s Abdul Kalam Azad secured 141,253 votes, while Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abdullah Ebneh Abul Hossain received 71,040 votes. Turnout was 58.13% in 126 centres, with 4,467 rejected votes.

In Tangail-8 (Basail-Sakhipur), BNP candidate Ahmed Azam Khan won with 114,217 votes. Independent candidate Salauddin Alamgir received 77,130 votes. Turnout was 60.81% in 132 centres, and 3,800 ballots were cancelled.

Voting was held from 7:30am to 4:30pm on Thursday without major disruption. Around 19,000 law enforcement personnel, including members of the police, army, BGB and RAB, were deployed to ensure security.

A total of 47 candidates contested in the eight constituencies. There are 1,063 polling centres in the district, of which 160 were marked as vulnerable.
