A mystery has arisen surrounding Preeti Khandker Halima, a candidate for vice-chairman in the upcoming Brahmanbaria Upazila Parishad elections, who has gone missing while campaigning for the election.

Following this incident, her family filed a General Diary (GD) at the Bijoynagar police station on Wednesday. However, the police suggest the situation might be staged.

Bijoynagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asadul Islam said: “The candidate's husband came to the station at night, and they inspected the site where she was last seen. Local residents confirmed seeing the candidate campaigning but were unaware of her disappearance.”

The police officer also suggested that her disappearance might be a publicity stunt for gaining popularity in the election. However, they are taking the GD complaint seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation.

Masud Khandker, the missing Preeti Khandker's husband, claimed: “My wife is contesting for the position of female vice-chairman in the upcoming election scheduled for June 5. On Tuesday afternoon, Preeti went campaigning in Harshpur union with two associates.

“While campaigning in Rishi Para of Harshpur, the associates came outside while Preeti was inside talking to voters. When she did not come out even after 20 minutes, they went inside to check and found her missing. The issue was then reported to the assistant returning officer, the upazila nirbahi officer, and the officer-in-charge of the police station, and a GD was filed.”
