Upazila Polls: 3 assistant presiding officers withdrawn in Moulavibazar

The authorities have withdrawn three assistant presiding officers on charge of irregularities in two centres of Sreemangal Upazila of Moulavibazar in the third phase of Upazila Parishad elections.

Moulavibazar Returning Officer Shahina Akhtar gave the order on Wednesday.

They are Assistant Presiding Officer Mira Sheel, Anjan Dev of Sreemangal Union Parishad Centre and Prashant Kumar Dev of Center Housing Estate Government Primary School Centre.

The total number of voters in this upazila is 254,441. Among them 128,471 male and 125,970 female voters.  Voting took place at 522 booths in 82 polling stations since 8am in the morning.

Three candidates are contesting for the post of chairman, four for vice chairman (male) and three for the post of vice chairman (female) in the election.

Voter turnout was very low in cities and suburbs. But the picture is different in the centres of tea plantation areas.

Returning Officer and Additional District Magistrate Shahina Akhter confirmed the matter of withdrawal and said that the polling in Sreemangal Upazila is going peacefully and fair. However, if there is a complaint of any irregularity, action will be taken immediately.
