Update : 09 Jan 2024, 01:11 AM

The Election Commission has set February 12 for the election in the Naogaon-2 constituency, which was postponed following the death of an independent candidate.

The commission announced the schedule on Monday.

The last date for submitting nominations to the returning officer has been set on January 17 and the Election Commission is scheduled to scrutinize the nomination submissions the next day.

On December 29, 2023, the Election Commission (EC) decided to postpone the election in the Naogaon-2 constituency due to the death of Aminul Haque.

Election Commission Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said the election was being postponed as per Section 17 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972.

Freedom fighter Aminul Haque, an independent candidate in Naogaon-2, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka at the age of 75.

Aminul, former mayor of Nazipur municipality, was admitted to hospital on December 27 after he fell ill and breathed his last there early on December 29, hours after being allocated an electoral symbol for the 12th parliamentary election.
