Prof Nurul Islam Milon, an independent candidate in Comilla-8 (Barura) and former Jatiya Party lawmaker, has decided to boycott Sunday’s general election.
He made the announcement at a press conference at his electoral camp in the College Road area in Barura upazila at noon on Saturday.
Milon said he made the decision as the election environment is “unfavourable,” adding that he has submitted a complaint to the returning officer.
After the election, he will address his activists and media personnel to convey his message to the people of Barura.
Former Barura upazila Jatiya Party president Abdul Bari, general secretary Akhtaruzzaman Bhuiyan, JaPa leaders Abu Yusuf Manik, Rafiqul Islam and others were present.
Nurul Islam Milon was elected to parliament as a Jatiya Party candidate in the 2014 national election.
JaPa expelled him in early 2022.
This year Irfan Bin Torab Ali is contesting the election from the seat from JaPa. Prof Nurul Islam Milon was contesting the polls as an independent candidate with the Eagle symbol.
