Jatiya Party, led by GM Quader, spent more than it earned during the 2025 calendar year, according to the party's annual financial statement submitted to the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday.
The party reported an income of Tk1,82,04,270 and an expenditure of Tk1,87,93,433, resulting in a deficit of Tk5,89,163 for the year.
Jatiya Party Additional Secretary General Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan submitted the income and expenditure statement for 2025 to EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.
Speaking to reporters after submitting the statement, Rezaul said the party's total income until December 31, 2025, stood at Tk18,204,270, while total expenditure amounted to Tk1,87,93,433.
He said the party had Tk2,66,55,164 in its bank accounts, including the previous year's balance, and after meeting all expenditures, the closing bank balance stood at Tk78,61,731.
Rezaul attributed the higher expenditure to election-related activities during the year.
Referring to the upcoming local government elections, he said political parties will not be able to contest officially under party symbols this time, but Jatiya Party-backed candidates will participate independently with the party's support.
Asked about demand for legal action against former president Mohammed Shahabuddin following his recent resignation, the Jatiya Party leader said: “The question is whether he engaged in any unconstitutional activities while in office. If he did not, why should we demand his arrest? The Jatiya Party has no comment on the issue."
Responding to a question about the impact of divisions within the party following the fall of the Awami League government, he claimed that most leaders who had left the party since have returned under GM Quader's leadership.
Rezaul expressed optimism that Jatiya Party-backed candidates will perform well in the upcoming local government elections, particularly in certain regions, and said the previous split had not significantly affected the party's grassroots organization.
He also hinted at the possibility of the party's divided factions being reunited in the future.
