Rakib Hossain, Jatiya Party candidate for Lakshmipur-3, has stepped aside from the election race citing the absence of a fair environment.
Rakib made this announcement at a press conference at his election office in the Jhumur area of the district on Thursday.
He alleged that a "farce election" is being held across the country. The common people of Lakshmipur are away from the elections, and only a few privileged people are involved.
He also claimed that influential people are using huge amounts of black money to attract the voters and his posters have been torn down.
"Complaints were made to the returning officer about these issues but no action was taken. So, I have withdrawn from the election on the instructions of the centre due to the lack of a fair environment," he added.
In this election, JaPa had announced candidates for 265 seats.
The party entered into an agreement with the Awami League in 26 of these seats, leading to the removal of Awami League candidates from these constituencies. In most of the remaining constituencies, JaPa's candidates have not been actively campaigning.
