The deadline for the withdrawal of candidature for the upcoming 12th National Parliament election is set for Sunday.
Candidates with valid nominations can opt to withdraw by either presenting themselves at the Returning Office or by using courier services, and this must be completed by 4pm.
From Monday, The MP aspirants can officially start campaigning. On the same day, the Election Commission will allocate symbols among the confirmed valid candidates.
As outlined in the Election Code of Conduct, no candidate, political party, or their representatives are permitted to engage in election campaigning until three weeks prior to the polling date. Therefore, Monday signifies the commencement of the election campaign.
The Election Commission has successfully addressed 560 appeal applications, with 525 of these being filed by candidates initially disqualified during the selection process. Over the course of the past six days, a total of 280 appeals have been accepted during the appeal hearings.
Initially, the returning officers had validated the nomination papers of 1,985 candidates. Following the conclusion of the six-day appeal hearings, the official count of valid candidates now stands at 2,260 who are eligible to participate in the election.
The finalization of candidates for this election will occur following the withdrawal of nominations on Sunday.
According to data from the Election Commission, out of the 44 registered parties in the country, 29 party nominees and independent candidates are actively participating in the elections.
Notably, 15 parties, including BNP and their allies, have chosen not to participate in this electoral process.
