For the first time ever, the Election Commission is monitoring the ballot paper-based Dhaka-17 by-polls through CCTV cameras.
The commission has set up 853 CCTV cameras for Dhaka-17 by-polls, sources at the Election Commission have said.
On the other hand, the Election Commission has set up 119 CCTV cameras in 12 polling centres in Benapole Municipality of Jessore and 86 in nine centers in Bhandaria Municipality of Pirojpur.
These polls are being conducted via Electric Voting Machines (EVMs).
The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, Election Commissioner Brigadier General Ahsan Habib Khan (retd), Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana, Election Commissioner Anisur Rahman, Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath, NID Director General AKM Humayun Kabir, and IDEA-2 Project Director Brigadier General Abul Hasnat Sayem are monitoring the polls since 8am.
CollectedNo unwanted incident has been reported so far, according to the Election Commission sources.
Balloting for the Dhaka-17 by-polls began at 8am on Monday.
The voting will continue till 4pm.
Voters were seen at several polling centres in Banani and Gulshan since 7am amidst the rain.
The number of voters is 325,205 under 125 polling stations in the Dhaka-17 constituency, which comprises wards 15,18,19 and 20 of Dhaka North City Corporation as well as the Dhaka cantonment area.
A total of eight MP candidates are contesting in the by-polls. The candidates are Mohammad Arafat (Boat), Ashraful Hossen Alom alias Hero Alom (Ektara), Major (retd) Sikder Anisur Rahman (Plough), Kazi Md Rashedul Hassan Rashed (Rose), Major (retd) Sheikh Habibur Rahman (Sonali Aash), Rezaul Islam Swapan (Green Coconut), Mohammad Akhter Hossain (Chari) and Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan (Truck).
