Amid heavy security and monitoring, the voting in the District Council polls has ended peacefully.
The voting began at 9am and continued till 2pm under the supervision of the deputy commissioners, according to the Election Commission.
The voting was held at 925 booths in 462 centres across the country and 60,866 voters were eligible to cast their votes.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal and other election commissioners monitored the District Council polls through CCTV cameras at the Election Commission headquarters.
The votes were taken by Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) which were installed at every upazilas as the elected representatives of the union parishad, municipalities and upzila parishad are the voters of the district council election, reports BSS.
Election Commission sources reported that 92 chairman candidates, 1,485 general members, and 603 women candidates contested in the polls.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission had deployed seven members of the law enforcement agencies at each polling centre - a striking force comprising the members of Bangladesh Police, APBn, Bangladesh Ansar, and another striking force comprising the members from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
In addition to this, a total of three platoons of BGB members were also deployed, reports BSS.
