A total of 218 Union Parishads (UPs) in 42 upazilas of 22 districts are set to go to polls on Monday in the sixth and final phase of the ongoing countrywide elections to the lowest tier of the local government.
The voting will be held from 8am to 4pm without any break.
The Election Commission (EC) has made all preparations for the polls at this stage while election instruments have already been sent to the polling centres, reports BSS.
Voting will be held on electric voting machine (EVM) system in 216 UPs and ballot system in two unions.
According to EC sources, 11,604 candidates are vying for various posts across the country in this phase.
Of these, 1,199 are contesting for the post of chairman while 2,559 are for reserved women members and 7,846 for general members.
The total number of voters in this election is 4,182,263.
Of these, 2,114,720 are male voters and 2,067,537 are female voters.
Besides, there are also six third gender voters.
All voters will cast their votes in 13,305 rooms of 2,186 polling centres.
At least one person was killed and more than 20 others injured in violence in different districts ahead of the sixth phase.
The 218 UPs include two in Panchagarh, 22 in Dinajpur, two in Rangpur, eight in Kurigram, eight in Gaibandha, 23 in Bogra, eight in Naogaon, two in Jamalpur, eight in Sherpur, 21 in Mymensingh, three in Netrakona , five in Tangail, 10 in Kishoreganj, six in Manikganj, 18 in Dhaka, one in Gopalganj, one in Madaripur, five in Shariatpur, 18 in Sylhet, eight in Habiganj, 14 in Brahmanbaria, 32 in Comilla, and one in Chittagong.
