Stern actions will be taken if anyone tries to interfere in the Narayanganj City Corporation Election, say police.
“Over 5,000 law enforcers from police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will be deployed,” Naryanaganj’s Superintendent of Police Jayedul Alam said at a news briefing on Saturday.
“Nobody will be allowed to take over the polling centres or interfere in the voting,” he said, adding that a three-tier security will be in place during the polls.
The Narayanganj police chief said that no outsiders will be allowed to enter Narayanganj the day of the election and those aged above 18 years exiting the city will need to produce their National IDs.
Responding to queries on the mayor aspirant Taiumur Alam Khandaker being harassed by the police, he said: “Police is not harassing anyone. There are warrants out against criminals and drug traders and steps are being taken against them.”
Over 500,000 residents of Narayanganj will exercise their voting rights, casting their votes in the 192 polling centres in 27 wards on Sunday.
Voting to the Narayanganj City Corporation will be held with seven mayor aspirants and 148 councilor candidates in the race. Moreover 34 will contest for the reserved seats.
