Amu: Rescheduling of polls’ date, crisis of vehiclesto blame for low voter turnout

He also said councillor candidates failed to generate asignificant voter turnout at polling stations

Awami League Advisory Committee Member and Chief Coordinator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections, Amir Hossain Amu, mentioned three reasons for a low voter turnout in the elections.

The voting for DSCC and DNCC ended at 4pm on Saturday.

The rescheduling of the voting date, a crisis of vehicles, and a long vacation before election day are the main reasons for a lower casting of votes, Amu said.

Awami League presidium members Matiya Chowdhury, DrAbdurRazzak, Abdur Rahman, Awami League Central Working Committee members Abulhasnat Abdullah, and Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya were present at the briefing among others.

The Awami League leader said councillor candidates failed to generate asignificant voter turnout at the polling stations.

He also thanked the Election Commission and the people of Dhaka for a successful election.

Responding to reporters about BNP’s allegation that the prime minister violated the electoral code at the voting booth, Amu said: “If they file any complaint then we will address it.”
