Police have arrested a man with two locally-made firearms and three rounds of bullets from in front of a polling centre in Dhaka.
The man was arrested outside Satadal School in Badda’s Beraid area around 11am on Saturday.
Badda Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) MA Ahmed Humayun, of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Gulshan division, said: "Upon receiving information about a man standing with firearms, we rushed to the spot and arrested him.
"However, we cannot provide his name immediately.
“We do not yet know which candidate or party he supports," said the ADC.
Police is investigating the matter, he added.
The voting in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections began at 8am on Saturday, using only the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all polling centres.
This is the first ever EVM-only city polls being held in Bangladesh. The voting will continue without any break until 4pm.
