Fakhrul: Ducsu will reignite youth interest towards politics

The BNP secretary general hopes Ducsu polls, slated to be held on Monday, will help create future political leaders

Update : 10 Mar 2019, 05:47 PM

Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) polls will revive youth interest towards politics again, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.

"Ducsu election was not held for 29 years, which stopped the grounds for creating political leadership," Fakhrul said at a discussion meeting with the Krishak League convener committee at Dhaka Reporters' Unity, on Sunday.

"The youth became averse to politics. But I believe the Ducsu polls will revive our future generation's interests towards politics," he said.

The BNP secretary general further said if the Ducsu polls are held regularly, it will help in creating future political leadership.

"Who wins or loses in the polls is a secondary issue," he said. "The Ducsu election will benefit the nation and state immensely."

Fakhrul called upon the government to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in order to create a better political scenario in the country.

"If this unelected, illegal and unethical government really wants to create a better environment inside the country, it has to immediately release Khaleda Zia," he said. "They have to organize a fair election, under a neutral government, take the responsibility for the consequences."

He urged his party leaders and activists to remain strong, and work towards ensuring Khaleda Zia's release.

"Concentrate on keeping the foundation of the party strong, while solving internal disputes," he said.

BNP Vice-Chairman and Convener of Krishak League Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Joint Secretary General Moazzem Hossain Alal, and others were also present in the discussion.
