Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said people have always relied on the BNP during times of crisis, with the party addressing various challenges in the past by working with its leaders and activists.
“Currently, the country's biggest problem is the fuel crisis. We are not denying it. But the crisis has been created by global factors,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized to mark the BNP's 48th founding anniversary at the Krishibid Institution in Khamarbari, Dhaka, on Saturday afternoon.
Tarique said the government was working on a master plan to ensure the country does not face similar problems in the future.
Acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi chaired the meeting, which was also addressed by central party leaders.
Tarique said people's democratic rights had been taken away in the past and the country's economic foundation had been weakened.
“Therefore, as in the past, in the previous election too, people voted for the BNP in a majority of seats and gave it the opportunity to form the government,” he said.
Tarique said the government inherited a fragile economy after coming to power.
He said the war had created a fuel and power crisis, but expressed hope that the situation would be resolved soon.
