Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has urged members of his party not to harass members of the opposition.
He said this while thanking everyone at a press briefing in Noakhali on Monday.
At the time, Companiganj Upazila Chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal and the party Upazila President Khizir Hayat were present, among others.
Quader continued: “Do not exaggerate while celebrating the election victory. Keep everything in the field of politics do not take any grudge back home with you. We have a tradition here [in Noakhali] to work together for the betterment of the country.”
Awami League won by a massive landslide in the 11th general election on Sunday. The party won 263 of the 298 seats.
He furthered: “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will fulfil all the promises she pledged before the election. We have to focus on work rather than indulge in celebration.”
“I thank everyone for supporting me in the election,” he said.
Quader added: “There will be ups and downs in politics and we have to keep that in mind and move forward. We have to solidify this win.
We won because of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership and the love for her held by the people of the country.
There will be no victory procession; instead we will celebrate the win peacefully in our homes.
Sheikh Hasina instructed that we avoid vengeful politics.”
Quader continued: “There were some problems during the casting of votes in some areas, but in my constituency there were no problems.
There will be mistakes and we have to learn from them.
The development of the country should continue in the next year and we will create jobs for the youth.
