Press Wing: NSI document claiming Jamaat victory fake

Officials confirm the document outlining post-election suppression plans is fabricated and baseless, spread to create confusion ahead of the election

Update : 06 Feb 2026, 10:56 PM

A purportedly “top secret” document circulating on social media under the name of the National Security Intelligence (NSI), claiming that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s “Dari palla” (scale) symbol had been declared the winner and outlining plans to suppress post-election unrest, is fake and fabricated, the Fact-Check Division of the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said on Friday.

The document alleged that 75% of postal ballots had been counted in favor of Jamaat and that an “irreversible administrative decision” had been taken to ensure the party’s victory. It also claimed that a “zero-tolerance” policy would be enforced to suppress any dissent or protest within 48 hours of the announcement of the election results.

According to the Press Wing, the so-called document was structured into six sections: ideological and strategic basis, results and information management, security and control, communication and code language, confidential distribution list, and special alerts. Under each heading, it purportedly provided instructions on announcing election results and managing the post-election situation.

The Press Wing said multiple inconsistencies were identified in the document, including mixed-language reference numbers, nonstandard date formats, irregular distribution lists, and artificial language and presentation.

It confirmed that the document circulating under the NSI’s name was not genuine and was digitally fabricated without any reliable source.

Separately, reports citing NSI sources said no such plan exists and described the claims contained in the document as entirely baseless, adding that the misinformation appeared to have been deliberately circulated to create confusion ahead of the election.

A report published by Desh Rupantor, citing NSI sources, also stated that the document and its contents are completely false.
