Why did you come into politics?

'Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu’ are the first words that I heard after birth. Exactly I cannot remember when I first chanted the slogan for boat, but I was doing it from a very young age. I am told that when I was born, Awami League leaders chanted the Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu slogan. I always chant the Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu slogan, even sometimes I chanted slogans demanding votes for my auntie and father.

As a member of a political family I learned politics from everyday family life. I grew up hearing the history of Bangladesh, Awami League, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Liberation War.

Member of the Bangabandhu family, or an Awami League organizer, which identity do you prefer?

I cannot ignore my identity as a family member of the Father of Nation. I came into politics by family inheritance, but I always tried to maintain relations with Awami League leaders in the southeast. My main identity is I am an organizer and candidate of Awami League. I came here as a party candidate and I am seeking votes for boat.

I do not want to be a political leader. I want to serve the people of Bangladesh as a servant, like my grandfather and auntie.

Say something about candidate Tonmoy.

I am the Awami League candidate now, maybe there will be a new face after five years but my only motto is to build Bagerhat as a modern city.

I will take all responsibility of all people of Bagerhat from December 31 if people elect me as their representative. I frequently visit Bagerhat. I was always linked with people of Bagerhat and seasoned politicians of Bagerhat trust me. I am not new here.

If elected, I will get some benefits from the government, but as a person I think I do not need those benefits. As a politician my motto will be to restore the youth’s belief, who think politicians do not serve people.  Bringing people into political arena is quite hard but our youth should take part in politics for their country’s sake. As a politician I can ensure a participatory environment for them.

Say something about your early political career.

I grew up around my auntie Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. My Father is also a politician. Though this is my first time in an election, politics is in my blood.

There are people who like me and people who hate me. There are people who like Awami League and there are anti-Awami League people. In a democratic country that is only normal.

Like people’s praise I take people’s criticism as a positive thing. I believe that everyone will help me be a better politician.

Why will the massive number of young voters vote for boat?

I believe that the young generation is politically conscious and they can fulfill Bangabandhu’s dream of Sonar Bangla.

Young generation upholds the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War and they are eager to know the history of Bangladesh. They also express their love and affection for their homeland boldly.

They feel proud when Bangladesh achieves something, and as they express their pride, it inspires us do more good work. The inclusion of this large number of young people in the voter list is a strong point for us.

Young generation should be given chance to participate in politics for the betterment of Bangladesh and as a young politician I will try to bring them in.

It is our bad luck that politics has become a business for some people. Due to this tendency young people dislike politics.
