The motorcade of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was allegedly intercepted in Narayanganj on Friday.

The BNP secretary general was on his way to attend an election rally in Bandar Upazila of Narayanganj when the incident took place.

“His (Fakhrul) motorcade was intercepted when unknown miscreants set fire to tyres and bamboos on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in the Madanpur area,” said BNP Chairperson's press wing official Sairul Kabir Khan to the Dhaka Tribune.

Later, the BNP team attended the rally and is now returning to Dhaka, said Sairul, who is with the BNP team right now.

Earlier on December 11, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s motorcade came under attack in Thakurgaon when he was entering the district to campaign for the upcoming 11th parliamentary election.

Fakhrul is contesting the December 30 polls from the Thakurgaon 1 constituency.
