Dr Kamal Hossain, a key leader of major opposition platform Jatiya Oikya Front, has reiterated his call for the government to return Bangladesh to its people.
He made the statement at an event held to unveil Jatiya Oikya Front’s election manifesto, at Dhaka’s Hotel Purbani, on Monday.
Alleging widespread corruption by the incumbent government, Dr Kamal said: “There is no alternative to good governance established by the people. This government does not represent the people, and can no longer make such claims.
“In tune with the safe roads movement, we are calling for repairs to the present system. The rule of the people must be re-established. We hope the people will cast their ballots in our favour on December 30, and will guard and protect the polling centres against any irregularities.”

Dr Kamal stated that power will be handed over to the people in a peaceful transition after the 11th parliamentary election.
Addressing the issue of alleged mass arrests across the country, he said: “Around 1,900 people have been arrested since the election schedule was announced. This is a shameful series of circumstances.”
Calling on the inspector general, Dr Kamal said: “You [Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary] have a good reputation, and to uphold it, please direct the police to halt mass arrests.”
Major opposition platform Jatiya Oikya Front is unveiling its 14-point manifesto for the 11th general election.
Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna is reading out the manifesto at an event at Hotel Purbani International, in Dhaka, that began around 11am on Monday.
Alliance chief Dr Kamal Hossain—and senior leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Zafrullah Chowdhury and Kader Siddique—among others are present in the program.
The election is scheduled to be held on December 30.
