The Jamaat affiliated-BNP candidate for Satkhira 4 consistency GM Nazrul Islam was arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit sabotage on Sunday.
Confirming the news, Shyamnagar police station OC Abul Kalam told the Dhaka Tribune that Nazrul was picked up from his ancestral home in Ismailpur village under the upazila around 2pm while he was attending a meeting with local Jamaat leaders.
“Nazrul is accused in 16 criminal cases, and there were 12 outstanding warrants against him, filed with multiple police stations in Satkhira,” OC Abul Kalam said.

Police also detained Shyamnagar upazila Chairman and upazila unit Jamaat chief Abdul Bari and Office Secretary Sheikh Abdul Bari from the same meeting.
Police earlier in the day arrested Abdur Rob, chief of Padmapukur union Jamaat unit under the Shyamnagar upazila.
On Thursday, police arrested BNP candidate from Gazipur 5 constituency Fazlul Haque Milon.
