Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has said the government is pushing the country towards a crisis by discussing another referendum on constitutional amendments.
He also accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of misleading the people by ignoring the verdict of the February 12 referendum.
He made the remarks on Wednesday at a reception for meritorious students organized by Bangladesh Labor Welfare Federation at the National Press Club.
Golam Parwar said: “Not accepting the public verdict of the referendum is BNP’s first mistake. By talking about another referendum, the government is pushing the country towards a new crisis.”
He also questioned the government’s focus on the Constitution, saying the home minister was busy with the Constitution instead of carrying out the responsibilities of his ministry.
Golam Parwar also expressed concern over the country’s law-and-order situation.
He said: “Seeing the current situation, it seems there is no government in the country. People are beginning to lose confidence in the government due to the deterioration of the law-and-order situation.”
The program was presided over by Bangladesh Labor Welfare Federation President Advocate Atikur Rahman.
Associate Professor Hasan Ul Banna of Ibn Sina Medical College and central leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir Azizur Rahman Azad also spoke at the event.
