Jatiya Party (JaPa) Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader said party chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad has left the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and returned home, where he is advising party officials about their election campaigns.

The senior politician made the statement when asked about the state of the former president’s health by journalists following a meeting between senior JaPa officials and the Election Commission in Dhaka’s Agargaon area around 1pm Saturday.

"I was right in saying that he does not need to go to Singapore for treatment," he quipped.

Talking to the media, Kazi Firoz said: “We came here to convey our full support to the Election Commission.

“We also notified them about our concerns regarding the upcoming general polls.”

“They have assured us that necessary steps will be taken to prevent any unwanted situations, so that the election is free and fair,” he added.

On November 12, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda announced a fresh schedule for the parliamentary election.

The commission said the polls will now be held on December 30 instead of December 23.
