Bomang Princess Daw Nai Prue Naly has become the centre of attention in Bandarban – after purchasing her nomination form – as she is the sole female nomination-aspirant contesting the 11th parliamentary election in this constituency.
Prue Naly, daughter of deceased Bomang King KS Prue, is already known in Bandarban as a human and women’s rights activist working for the past two decades. She founded Ananya Kolyan Sangathan, a non-profit organization, in 1999.
She joined forces with the National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh the same year, and began working to establish empowerment, education, and employment for women in the region.
Prue Naly has held important positions in many high-profile organizations such as: Jatiya Network Foundation, Durbar, Sujon, Adibasi Forum and the SAARC Humanitarian Foundation.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, the Bomang princess said: “I am contesting the upcoming election as a woman, and a human rights activist. My goal is to ensure good governance.”
District Polling Officer Rezaul Karim confirmed that Daw Nai Prue Naly collected her nomination form adhering to all rules and regulations.
What about Awami League, BNP?
Awami League nominated five-time lawmaker Bir Bahadur U Shoi Shing to contest the election in Bandarban, confirmed district unit Publicity and Publications Secretary Sadeq Hossain Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, district BNP General Secretary Jabed Reza said: “I, along with Bandarban unit President Mrs Mamaching, and central committee member Saching Prue, have collected a nomination form.”
Bandarban constituency is home to 404,093 people, and 80,622 of them belong to the Marma community. The 300th constituency boasts 246,183 voters.
