BNP has alleged that the "partisan" and "controversial" officials of the police and civil administration are hatching plots to propel ruling party the Awami League to power again.
"Police and civil administration officials are regularly holding secret meetings to ensure victory of the Awami League candidates in the upcoming 11th general polls," BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said.
He made the allegations at a press conference held at BNP's central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka on Saturday, reports UNB.
Rizvi claimed that police and administration officials held a secret meeting at the conference room of the Officer's Club, for two and a half hours, on Tuesday.
In the meeting, they went over the ruling party's plan to engineer the upcoming election, he alleged.
Rizvi further claimed that the people present in the meeting were: the Prime minister's Secretary Sazzadul Hasan, Public Administration Secretary Faiz Ahmed, Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, Water Resources Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar, Civil Aviation Secretary Mohibul Haque, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Dhaka Returning Officer Ali Azam, the prime minister's Assistant Private Secretary-1 Kazi Nishat Rasul, and officials of police, RAB, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the counter-terrorism unit.
"Those present at the meeting decided that the Election Commission will create obstacles for BNP and the Jatiya Oikya Front so they cannot participate in the election," Rizvi alleged at the press briefing.
The BNP leader also claimed that the meeting was held to formulate plans to create such a situation before the election that BNP and its alliances will be forced to stay away.
When is the election?
The Election Commission deferred the original date of election from December 23 to December 30. Meanwhile, the deadline for submitting nomination forms is November 28.
