IIT Sri Lanka launches Dhaka office in Gulshan

The new Dhaka office is expected to facilitate academic collaboration between institutions in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

IIT Sri Lanka has launched its Dhaka office in Gulshan to strengthen educational cooperation between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The office was inaugurated on August 17 in the presence of academics and education professionals, including Professor H M Jahirul Haque, vice chancellor (Designated) of the Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) and International Strategy Adviser of IIT; Professor Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, VC of Southeast University; and Professor Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, former VC of Prime University.

Representatives from several English-medium schools also attended the event.

Speaking virtually at the inauguration, IIT Sri Lanka Group CEO Mohan Fernando highlighted opportunities for collaboration between educational institutions in the two countries at the secondary and tertiary levels.

He said the cultural similarities between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka could provide a strong foundation for closer educational ties.

A roundtable discussion followed the inauguration, led by Professor H M Jahirul Haque. Academics, educationists and representatives of English-medium institutions discussed challenges facing Bangladesh’s primary, secondary and tertiary education sectors and stressed the need for timely reforms.

Participants emphasized that quality education and skilled human resources are essential for sustainable economic growth and national development.

The new Dhaka office is expected to facilitate academic collaboration between institutions in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, particularly in student development and education.
