The results of the class 8, Junior Scholarship Examination- JSE have been published, marking the return of the assessment after a gap of more than a decade.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon formally announced the results at a programme held at the Ministry of Education on Wednesday at 1:30pm.
A total of 45,200 students have been awarded scholarships this year under two categories — Talent pool and General grade.
State Minister for Education, Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, Chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Prof Dr Khondokar Ehsanul Kabir and Convener of the Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee and Dhaka Board Controller of the Examinations Prof SM Kamal Uddin Haider were present at the event.
How to check JSE results
Students can access their results online through the Directorate of Primary Education website by selecting the “Scholarship Result” option and entering their roll number and the year 2026.
Results can also be obtained via SMS by typing the board name, roll number, and year and sending the message to 16222.
A return SMS will provide the result.
Over 3,50,000 examinees nationwide
According to ministry sources, around 3,50,000 students participated in the Junior Scholarship examination nationwide this year.
The exams began simultaneously on December 28 at 611 centres across the country and were held from 10am to 1pm.
Bangla was held on the first day, followed by English on December 29 and Mathematics on December 30.
The exams scheduled for December 31 — Science and Bangladesh and Global Studies — were postponed following the death of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The postponed exams were later held on January 6.
Scholarships were awarded proportionately based on board-wise distribution and upazila-level quotas in line with the existing policy.
Participation in Dhaka Board
Data from the Dhaka Education Board shows that 87,949 students were registered under the board, of whom 80,218 — or 91.2% — sat for the examination. A total of 7,731 registered candidates, representing 8.8%, were absent.
Among those who appeared, 10,030 students did not sit for all subjects. A total of 77,919 students completed exams in all subjects, accounting for 88.6% of total examinees. Approximately 11.4% did not take all subject exams.
Board-wise breakdown
After Dhaka, the Rajshahi Education Board had the highest number of examinees, with 43,660 students (around 12.60%).
The Comilla Board recorded 40,219 candidates (approximately 11.60%), while Dinajpur had 40,231 examinees (around 11.61%). Combined, Comilla and Dinajpur accounted for more than 23% of total examinees.
Under the Jessore Board, 38,676 students (approximately 11.16%) participated, while Chittagong recorded 29,005 candidates (around 8.37%).
Among the newer and comparatively smaller boards, Mymensingh had 23,200 examinees (about 6.69%) and Sylhet had 23,022 (approximately 6.64%), together accounting for more than 13% of the total.
Barisal recorded the lowest number of examinees, with 20,629 students (around 5.95%) sitting for the examination.
