The admission test of Jahangirnagar University for this year commenced on Sunday, with unit D (Biological Sciences faculty) at 9:00am with the first shift, exclusively for female candidates and would conclude with the 5th shift at 3:15pm.
Syed Mohammad Ali Reza, member secretary of the Central Admission Test Committee said: “The first shift began at 9am today (on Sunday) and the fifth shift will conclude at 3:15pm, marking the end of the first day's examination. Thus far, the examinations have been conducted in a highly disciplined manner, with strict security measures in place. We have not received any complaints as of yet.”
This year, the admission test for Unit D will be conducted in a total of nine shifts.
On the first day, examinations for female candidates are being held across five shifts, while the four remaining shifts for male candidates will take place on Monday.
According to the Central Admission Test Committee of the university, a total of 86,768 candidates have applied for 300 seats in the Faculty of Biological Sciences under Unit D.
This translates to a competition ratio of 289 candidates per seat.
Meanwhile, the second-highest number of applications this year has been recorded for Unit A, which pertains to the Faculty of Mathematical and Physics.

A total of 73,169 candidates will be competing for 426 seats in this unit.
Additionally, for Unit C, which encompasses the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and the Faculty of Law, 53,401 candidates have applied for 438 seats.
In Unit B, under the Faculty of Social Sciences, 23,774 applications have been submitted for 326 seats.
The "C1" unit, covering Drama & Dramatics and Fine Arts, has received 5,507 applications for 64 seats.
The Faculty of Business Studies (Unit E) has received 15,183 applications for 200 seats.
Lastly, the IBA-JU unit, with 50 available seats, has attracted 4,688 applicants.
To ensure a secure examination process, the university has reinforced its security measures. Professor AKM Rashidul Alam, proctor and convener of the Admission Test Discipline and Security Committee, said, “Police patrols have been deployed along the Dhaka-Aricha Highway at night to ensure security. Additionally, 150 uniformed and plainclothes armed police officers, along with 60 extra Ansar personnel, have been stationed at various points across the campus. To assist candidates, 120 members of the BNCC and Rover Scouts have been assigned to maintain discipline at different centers.”
Furthermore, he added: “Necessary arrangements have been made to deploy traffic police at the university’s main gate (Dairy Gate), Joy Bangla Gate (Prantik Gate) and at the Bishmail Gate near the Dhaka-Aricha Highway. CCTV cameras have been activated at key locations across the campus to monitor proceedings and prevent any untoward incidents. We seek everyone’s cooperation in maintaining order.”
Regarding transportation within the university during the admission test, he mentioned that only manually operated rickshaws authorized by the university will be allowed.
More than 320 rickshaw pullers have already been provided with uniforms.
However, rickshaws will not be permitted to operate between the Central Shaheed Minar and the main gate (Dairy Gate).
Additionally, rickshaws arriving from the female dormitories will stop at the designated Tarzan Point near Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi Hall.
