Shahira Sarwat, a student of Architecture at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), has been recognized with a Commendation at the 2024 Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) Awards in the prestigious 'CAA Presidents' Awards' category.
This commendation highlights outstanding work by final-year architecture students.
Her thesis project, ‘Heritage Sanctuary for Geology,’ centered on the preservation of Jaflong’s ancient geological landscape in Sylhet.
Completed during the Fall 2023-2024 semester, the project was guided by studio teachers Ashik Vaskor Mannan and Irfat Alam, with Arefeen Ibrahim as the project supervisor.
Out of 159 global submissions across all categories, 64 were in the Presidents' Awards category, with winners from 12 countries.
Shahira's commendation was presented to her by Architect Md Rafiq Azam, one of the CAA jurors, at a meeting in Dhaka following the CAA Award Ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda.
Additionally, her project has been shortlisted for the final round of the ARCASIA Thesis of the Year Award 2024, one of the three national entries selected.
This prestigious competition celebrates innovative and socially impactful student work in architecture across Asia.
