Students of Jagannath University have called for the release of Noor Nabi, a student of the Department of Islamic Studies (2019-20 batch), who they claim has been falsely accused and imprisoned.
Noor Nabi was detained on July 19 in front of the university's main gate on charges related to carrying 12 grenades and vandalism.
A fellow student from Jagannath University said: "Such a case against a talented and good person like Noor Nabi cannot be accepted in any way. He has always played a role in protecting the reputation of the university. We want his release anyway."
Ashiqur Rahman, another student, added: "We students are not able to move safely. Many students are being detained. Noor Nabi, a student of the Islamic Studies Department, has been detained with a false case. We want his release."
Moreover, numerous students have flooded Facebook with posts demanding Noor Nabi's release from the false case.
Professor Dr Mohammad Jahangir Hussain, the proctor of Jagannath University, said that 16 students have been detained by the police so far.
"The university administration has been able to release 13 innocent students through the legal process. The remaining three could not be released due to various allegations against them. The university administration will not be able to help as this is a legal process," he explained.
