The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) and Jagannath University (JnU) have decided to suspend physical classes and examinations due to the ongoing heatwave and will move to online classes.
Due to the ongoing severe heat wave, the DU administration has decided to conduct classes online until further notice.
The university's registrar issued a notification in this regard on Sunday.
The notification says that due to the severe heatwave affecting the entire country and to avoid health risks, the University of Dhaka will conduct classes online until further instructions are given. All classes will be conducted online, and examinations will continue as scheduled.
The notification also advises students to leave their dormitories for homes to follow health guidelines carefully to minimize health risks.
Jagannath University (JnU) administration has announced the suspension of all physical classes and examinations for the next week due to the severe heatwave and said classes will continue online.
The decision was made at a special meeting held on Sunday morning in the conference room of the university's administrative building.
JnU Acting Registrar Prof Dr Ainul Islam said: "All classes this week will be held online. Examinations scheduled during this period will be postponed and rescheduled."
JnU Proctor Prof Dr Mohammad Jahangir Hossain said: "Due to the severe heatwave, it is really challenging for students to attend classes in person. The vice-chancellor had already discussed this issue last week, and Sunday's special meeting decided to keep classes online and suspend examinations.
"This arrangement will continue for this week. Later, the vice-chancellor will make further decisions based on the situation. He is in favor of making decisions that are best for the students."
