Students of seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University have staged a demonstration in the New Market area of the capital to meet their seven-point demands.
They started protesting in front of Balaka Cinema Hall, opposite of New Market at 10:30am on Sunday.
Later, they came to Eden College gate crossing Nilkhet. As of writing this report, the students were seen demonstrating in front of Eden College.
The agitating students said that they will stay until the principal of Eden College and the coordinator of seven colleges give an assurance to accept their demands.
The demands of the students include- the reasons for the harassment of the students of seven colleges in the Dhaka University Registrar's building should be explained and stopped, the students who have come to know that they are non-promoted after participating in the next year's classes, in-courses and test exams, should be given the opportunity to attend the next year's exams through improvement exams, reasons for the late release of results and steps taken to resolve the issue should be explained and results should be published within a maximum period of 90 days.
They also demanded a designated platform for addressing student issues, proper implementation of the academic calendar, resolution of teacher and classroom crises, and relaxation of CGPA conditions
Taslim Chowdhury, a student of Government Titumir College, said: "We have given our logical demands in written form before…But it didn't work. That's why we need to take to the streets again. We will remain in front of Eden College until the coordinator gives us assurance that our demands will be met.”
On May 25, students formed a human chain in front of Dhaka College with their demands.
Later, a delegation of students met Prof Supriya Bhattacharya, Coordinator of Seven Colleges and Principal of Eden College and submitted a memorandum.
