The government has given instructions to the educational institutions of the country to hold a textbook festival the first day of the new year.
The Department of Secondary and Higher Education announced on Wednesday that "Textbook Festival Day - 2023" will be observed on January 1 in order to provide fresh textbooks to students nationwide for the 2023 academic year.
All parties involved are asked to arrange the "Textbook Festival Day-2013" event in secondary level educational facilities under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education in an orderly and festive atmosphere.
MA Khair, information and public relations officer of the education ministry, said that the Secondary Book Festival will be held at the Kapasia Pilot High School grounds in Gazipur.
Mahbub Rahman Tuhin, public relations officer of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, said that the primary book festival will be held centrally at the central playground of Dhaka University (DU).
According to related sources, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the book Festival on Saturday. She will inaugurate the festival by giving a set of books to one student of each class at the Prime Minister's Office.
NCTB Chairman Professor Farhadul Islam said: “The textbook festival could not take place for the past two years due to Covid-19. This year, we have notified every district and upazila to distribute books in a festive manner.”
According to NCTB, the government has directed the parliamentarians and ministers to celebrate this festival in their respective districts.
This time, more than 345 million textbooks are being printed for the 2023 academic year to be distributed among 40,915,000 students at the primary and secondary level.
