The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations were published yesterday, showing a pass percentage of 95.26%.
Last year, the pass rate was 100% due to the auto-pass method.
Among the examinees, 95.57% passed the HSC examinations, 95.49% the Madrasah Board exams, and 92.85% the Technical Board exams.

A total of 1,306,718 examinees out of 1.371,681 passed under the 11 education boards of the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina published the results of HSC and equivalent examinations 2021 virtually from Ganabhaban during a function at the International Mother Language Institute.
“I congratulate those who have passed the exams. As for those who did not pass, I want to say that this is not a crime. Please consider that the exams were held in an unusual environment,” said the prime minister.
“You (parents) should give them (students) more opportunities. It (failure) is not their fault. The Covid-19 pandemic is a global problem. The challenging environment that has been created due to pandemic is prevalent all over the world,” she said
On behalf of the prime minister, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni received the results of the HSC and equivalent exams-2021 and related statistics from the chairmen of all the education boards.

Number of GPA 5 achievers rises
This year, a total of 189,169 students secured GPA 5 against 161,807 last year.
Among the successful students, 178,522 achieved GPA 5 under nine general education boards, as compared to 4,872 under the Madrasa Education Board, and 5,775 under the Technical and Vocational Education Board.
A total of 14,03,244 candidates took part in the HSC and equivalent exams from 9,183 educational institutions under 11 education boards in the country.
Girls ahead of boys
Female students have surpassed their male peers in both pass and GPA 5.0 rates in the 2021 HSC and equivalent exams.
Of the 656,165 girls who attended the exams, 633,138 (96.49%) passed. Among 715,516 male students who appeared for the exams, 673,580 (94.14%) passed.
In the 2021 exams, 102,406 female students achieved GPA 5.0, as compared to 86,763 boys, according to the Education Ministry.
However, boys were ahead in the Madrasa Education Board, with 2,786 male and 2,086 female students securing GPA 5.
A total of 1,20,230 students from science and home economics, 41,373 from humanities, Islamic and music, and 16,919 from business studies obtained GPA 5.
Dhaka tops other boards in GPA-5, Jessore leads in pass rate
As many as 59,233 students secured GPA 5 from Dhaka board, 32,800 from Rajshahi, 15,349 from Dinajpur, 13,720 from Chittagong, 20,878 from Jessore, 76,87 from Mymensingh, 14,153 from Comilla, 9971 from Barisal and 4731 from Sylhet.
A total of 96.20% students passed the HSC exams under Dhaka Board, 89.39% Chittagong, 97.49% Comilla, 95.76% Barisal, 94.80% Sylhet, 92.43% Dinajpur, 98.11% Jessore, 95.71% Mymensingh, and 97.29% under Rajshahi Board.
Due to pandemic, HSC and equivalent examinations included 6 papers in only three subjects this year. This year’s results have been made by mapping the numbers of JSC, JDC, SSC, and equivalent subjects along with the numbers of three subjects.
The HSC and equivalent exams were held from December 2-30 last year with a shortened syllabus.
The HSC exams of 2020 could not be held due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the results were prepared based on the candidates’ performances in previous public examinations.
