The authorities of schools and colleges in the country will promote the students to the next class on the basis of internal evaluation systems without auto promotion.
Prof Ziaul Haque, chairman of Dhaka Education Board confirmed the matter after meeting with chairpersons of the country's different education boards on Thursday in the capital.
He did not comment on the development of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and other equivalent exams at the meeting.
Prof Ziaul Haque said there is no legal barrier to promoting students. But there has to be an evaluation system.
He said students of class six and seven will be promoted to the next class based on the performances in the normal class held till March 15 followed by class broadcast on Sangsad TV as well as online classes.

However, if it becomes possible to reopen the educational institutions then the school authorities will take exams or otherwise conduct online class evaluation or internal assessment to promote students of class eight to nine, said the board chairman.
“Promotion is an internal decision of each educational institution and if needed, Bangladesh Examination Development Unit (BEDU) will issue additional guidance or notice,” he said.
The school authorities will evaluate students of class nine based on the internal performance including online class and assessment to be promoted to class ten, Prof Ziaul Haque added.
In addition, the students of class eleven otherwise known as intermediate first year will be evaluated on the same measurements. When the institutions will reopen then schools or colleges will cover the incomplete syllabus for the class nine and eleven students, he mentioned.

He further said, if the institutions face any barrier to promote students to the next class at higher secondary level, then the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) will jointly issue a guideline.
Regarding the potential rescheduling of impending Higher Secondary Education (HSC) and equivalent exams, he said: “We are not authorized to do so as the Ministry of Education is there to take care of this matter.”
“But we’re well prepared for the exams,” he concluded. We discussed the holding of the HSC exams among various points on the agenda.
Another education board chairman, preferring not to be named, echoed Ziaul’s sentiment and said they have taken measures to preserve and keep the examination materials safe that have already been sent to respective education offices across the country.
Later on Thursday night, in a statement on its verified Facebook page, the Ministry of Education asked the HSC candidates not to worry about the HSC exams getting cancelled.
"No decision has yet been made about not holding the HSC exams," the post reads. "The candidates are urged to continue their preparations."
