Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), one of the top private universities in the country, held its first ever online orientation program for students of the Summer 2020 semester in Dhaka.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, IUB decided to host a grand virtual orientation program for the summer semester on Saturday, to ensure that students do not suffer academically during the global pandemic.
Students who took admission in the Summer 2020 semester attended the orientation from 11:05am to 11:55am on Saturday.

IUB Board of Trustees Chairman A Matin Chowdhury attended as chief guest, while IUB Vice-Chancellor (Acting) Prof Milan Pagon was a special guest.
The 15 minute sessions were moderated by Kh Aminul Haque, director of Media & Public Relations Department, IUB.
In his address to the parents, Board of Trustees Chairman Mr A Matin Chowdhury said: “You are sending your children to this university with a lot of hope and you are making the right decision. I would like to assure you that we will do our very best.
“For all of you, we are starting summer semester 2020 online, with new technology and new logistics. Congratulations to the students and the technical team. You have done a very good job. I am sure we will get online education of a global standard,” he said.
“Our faculty members and deans are all highly educated scholars who are also very good motivators. I would like to thank the team who have been dedicated to the university for many years. Especially during the pandemic, when they had to shift their work from a physical university to a virtual one,” he added.
IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Milan Pagon said: “During this pandemic situation online class is an opportunity for gaining necessary lifelong education. IUB is committed to ensuring the highest education during this challenging time and we need every student’s support, participation, and commitment.
“We have a lot of waivers to help students financially. We would like to point out one thing, our dean and alumni will contribute from their own pockets to create a student welfare fund, so that more students can continue their studies.”
Different faculties
Business Dean, Prof Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, said: “I want to introduce the School of Business and Entrepreneurship [SBE] to freshers. More than 4,500 students are studying in this school. The courses offered by the school are transferable to any other university around the world.
“We have 46 full-time faculty members with academic experience from top class universities of the world. Our BBA, MBA, Basic Economics, and EMB programs are American accredited.”
Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Dean, Prof Imtiaz A Hussain, said: “On behalf of 40 full-time and 48 part-time faculty members, and 540 academic assistants of the school of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, I heartily welcome each one of you.”
Environment & Life Sciences Dean Prof Shah M Faruque: “To new students I would like to say that if you are interested in high profile research regarding theoretical, curricular, and extracurricular activities, Environment & Life Sciences is the right choice for you.”
Pharmacy & Public Health Dean, Prof JMA Hannan, said: “There are a lot of opportunities in Pharmacy & Public Health. Pharmacy is a highly rewarding profession. You can explore your expertise in fields like developing vaccines. Every day, innovative drugs are introduced into the market.
“During the challenging time of Covid-19 it has become clear to all of us that we need more pharmacists in the country. So I would say, choosing this department would be a smart choice.”
In the concluding section, Registrar Md Anwarul Islam, conducted the technical and orientation session for students. He elaborated on the university’s particular rules, regulations, and procedures.
