Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) welcomed more than 1,100 new undergraduate students during the Autumn 2026 Orientation program on September 10, 2026.
Organized by the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid and International Relations, the event was held at the IUB Auditorium and attended by parents, guardians, senior management, faculty members, and administrative staff.
Prof M Tamim, Vice Chancellor; Prof Daniel W Lund, Pro Vice Chancellor; and Registrar Asif Parvez spoke at the inaugural session. Lima Choudhury, Director of Admissions, Financial Aid and International Relations, delivered the welcome remarks.
The inaugural session concluded with the recognition of merit scholars who received 30-100% scholarships based on their admission test scores. The merit scholars were presented with tokens of appreciation by the vice chancellor.
"A strong institution is built on excellent faculty, quality infrastructure, and the merit of its student intake. Our admission process is rigorous, transparent, fair, and merit-based, upholding the values of IUB. We believe in maintaining a high-quality student intake, and the Autumn 2026 semester reflects this commitment, with 45% of the overall applicants selected for admission," said Lima Choudhury.
In the second session, a video presentation showcased student clubs, extracurricular activities, and general and academic support services.
Md Wasim Jabber, MCIPS, Treasurer; Prof Dr Bokhtiar Ahmed, Dean of School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Dr Hasan Sohel, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Life Sciences (representing the Dean of the School of Environment and Life Sciences); Dr Kamran ul Baset, Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Public Health; Dr Habib Bin Muzaffar, Dean of the School of Engineering, Technology and Sciences; Prof Dr Imtiaz A Hussain of Department of Department of Global Studies and Governance were present at the event.
Priyanka Dey, Deputy Director at the Admissions Office, moderated the program, which concluded with lively performances by the IUB Music Club and the IUB Dance Club.
