Teacher’s training on using Khan Academy Bangla in Grade III classroom held

The goal of the training was to improve math teaching skills of the math teachers of Grade III

A 2-day-long teacher’s training session on "Improving Math Teaching Skills: Using Khan Academy Bangla (KAB) in Grade III classroom" has been organized on 28-29 January 2020 at Agami Education Foundation office. 

Six Grade III math teachers from six different schools in Dhaka (including five Agami-supported schools) and two members of KAB attended the training session. The goal of the training was to improve math teaching skills of the math teachers of Grade III.

Apart from KAB trainers, Marjuk Ahmed, Consultant at KAB and Deputy Manager at Brac and Iffat Naomee, Lecturer at IER, University of Dhaka will took two sessions on assessment and lesson plan respectively during the concluding day. 

First session was an Introductory and ice-breaking session about the organizations. Program Manager of KAB conducted the session and talked about Agami, Khan Academy, KAB and their work procedures. 

Second session was on Introducing the KAB Platform to the teachers. Participants got to learn about the features of KAB platform and practiced as a learner throughout the session. A brainstorm session was done on ‘The Challenges a math faces in traditional classroom’.

Focus of the third session was about conducting a regular class by using KAB. After that, discussion went on some major topics of grade III Mathematics. Trainer focused on effective presentation of topics and topic related problems in classroom. The first day ended with providing homework on challenges a teacher can face during conducting math class by using KAB.

At the start of the second day, session conductor talked about the points came through the teachers’ homework. Participants solved a bunch of exercises from the selected topics to get used to with the platform. A simulation class was presented by the session conductor after discussing all the topics.

Lesson plan was discussed during the following session where teachers could learn to know about the importance of lesson plan. They prepared lesson plans instantly to get the first-hand experience.

Third session was on assessment in classroom. Teachers got to learn about the types of assessment from different aspects, importance, effective assessment procedures as well as the role of a teacher in assessment. 

Finally the training was ended with a session on monitoring and feedback. The session was focused on the monitoring procedure throughout the year, maintaining logbook for keeping all records, quarterly visit and monitoring by KAB as well.

The training was wrapped up with handing over the certificates to the participants. The teachers are expected to use these techniques and contents in their classes throughout the year and KAB staff will monitor the progress monthly.
