They also demanded they be given other allowances

Non-government teachers have demanded a gazette notification—of a 10% incision from their salary for the Welfare Trust Leisure Facilities Board—be cancelled.

They also demanded that they be ensured other facilities enjoyed by government teachers — like full festival bonuses and house rent, by Eid-ul-Azha.

The demands were raised at a press briefing at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday, organized by the Bangladesh Shikkhok Samity (BTA).

Md Kawsar Ali Sheikh, general secretary of BTA said: "We were very shocked and angry when we learned that a gazette notification of 10% incision from salaries was issued on April 15 — without consulting the representatives of the teacher's organization.

"They have also tried this before, several times, but because of the teachers' movements, they had to stop the publication of the notification."

Md Bazlur Rahman Miya, president of BTA announced at the press briefing that they will hold human chain programs and protests rallies in all sadar upazilas, plus submit a memorandum to the prime minister, on April 25, demanding the gazette notification be cancelled.

"Otherwise all teachers and employees will surround the office of Leisure Facilities Board and Welfare trust, and will observe hunger strikes," he added.
