The results of the 'Gha' unit re-test for admission for 2018-19 academic session of Dhaka University (DU) were published on Monday afternoon, showing a 61.1 percent pass rate.
Some 16,181 students out of total 18,463 who came out successful in the previous test held on October 12 appeared at the retake.
The results were published four days later and revealed a surprisingly high pass rate of around 26% - the highest for this unit in the last five years.
Following widespread condemnation of the test results through a nationwide protest, the university authorities acknowledged that the question paper must have been leaked prior to the exam.
On October 23, DU authorities made the decision of a re-take of the admission test on November 16, during a meeting held at the vice-chancellor’s office.
Marred by widespread allegations of question leak, 9,886 of them passed the freshly held admission test against 1,615 seats, stated a press release issued by the university.
The one-hour test was held from 3pm to 4pm at 19 centres at the university campus on Friday, November 16.
The results are currently available on the university website admission.eis.du.ac.bd.
Alternatively, the students can also get information about test results by sending an SMS through any mobile operator, by typing "DU GHA roll number" and send it to 16321.
Further, they can also apply for rescrutiny of the results by November 25, by applying to the Social Science Dean office for a fee of Tk1000.
From November 20 to November 27, the students who have obtained pass marks in the re-test have been asked to fill in the subject choice forms; DU will eventually nominate the students’ subject choices on December 3 in accordance with the fulfillment of the requirement criteria.
The aspirants who want to apply with quota privilege have been asked to collect the required forms from the dean’s office within the same time frame.
Notably, the allegations of question paper leakage in the “Gha” Unit admission test were also surfaced last year after e-mails containing questions of the English part of the exam were sent to some admission seekers around seven hours before the exam.
University authorities shortly after October 13 midnight filed a case against six named and many unnamed accomplices for their alleged involvement with ‘Digital Forgery’ under the Digital Security Act and the Public Examination Act.
The case was filed with the Shahbagh police station; the six named accused, all from Bogra, were arrested at the Doyel Chattar of the DU campus.
