Update : 26 Apr 2026, 06:21 PM

Police have recovered the body of a Dhaka University student from the Badda area of the capital. A teacher and a close classmate of the deceased have been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the incident.

The student has been identified as Munira Mahjabin Mimo, who was enrolled in the Master's program (2019–20 academic year) in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at the university.

The department's chairperson, Kazi Tamanna Haq Sigma, confirmed the matter earlier on Sunday afternoon. She said Mimo's body has been sent to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

It is preliminarily believed that she died by suicide at her own residence. A handwritten note was recovered from the scene, in which a teacher is mentioned by name. The note reportedly reads: "Sudip sir needs to be paid Tk50,000, Hani and Sudip sir, take care — returning the gifts sir gave."

Jewel, additional deputy commissioner of the Gulshan Zone (Badda), confirmed that the body has been sent for an autopsy. He said those linked to the case are being questioned based on evidence gathered during the investigation, and that legal action will follow if any involvement is established.

Police have stated that the body will be handed over to the family once the autopsy is complete, and that the investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident remains ongoing.
