Police recovered the hanging body of a 40-year-old woman from a house in South Hajinagar area of Demra, Dhaka, on Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Josna Begum, was found hanging inside a tin-shed house at around 11:30am. Her body was later sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Josna was the daughter of Abu Kalam from Krishnanagar village in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria. She lived in Demra with her husband, Md Faruk, a bus driver, and their 4 children.

Demra police station Sub-Inspector Mohammad Saddam Hossain said police received information about the incident at around 12:30pm and recovered her body from a room in the house.

He said relatives claimed that Josna had an argument with her husband over a family dispute and subsequently hanged herself using a scarf tied to a ceiling beam. However, the exact cause of death would be determined after the autopsy report is received.

Josna's husband, Faruk, who works as a bus driver for Alif Paribahan, said: “My wife was a homemaker. Following an argument over domestic matters, she became upset and died by suicide by hanging herself.”
