The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division filed 915 cases against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke during drives across the capital in July.
The DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division confirmed the matter.
According to DMP Traffic Division sources, regular drives are being conducted to curb environmental pollution and prevent vehicles from emitting excessive black smoke on the roads.
As part of the ongoing campaign, traffic police conducted drives in various parts of the capital throughout July and filed the cases against vehicles found emitting black smoke.
Of the 915 cases, 34 were filed by the Ramna Traffic Division, 354 by Motijheel, four by Lalbagh, 172 by Wari, 131 by Tejgaon, 36 by Mirpur, 128 by Uttara and 56 by Gulshan.
The Motijheel division recorded the highest number of cases, with 354, while Lalbagh recorded the lowest, with four.
The DMP said drives against black smoke-emitting vehicles and legal action against violators would continue as part of its efforts to reduce air pollution.
