Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) administrator Abdus Salam has said that city residents must also remain aware in order to control mosquitoes.

He said special emphasis has been placed on preventing dengue and chikungunya ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. “Under the weekly cleaning day initiative, we are carrying out special activities across the city. However, to ensure success in mosquito control, citizens must also remain aware from their own positions. Keeping their homes and yards clean and ensuring that water does not accumulate anywhere is our civic responsibility,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a tree plantation programme organized by Shahbagh Thana BNP at a roadside island (Prottasha Chattar) adjacent to Sarkari Karmachari Hospital in the capital on Friday afternoon.

He further said that the city corporation is working tirelessly to develop Dhaka into a liveable, modern, clean and green city. However, he added that government efforts alone are not enough to achieve this goal, and active participation from political organizations and the general public is essential.

He also noted that the tree plantation programme undertaken by BNP and its affiliated organizations is a commendable initiative that will help make the city more liveable.

At the beginning of the programme, the administrator inaugurated the event by planting a sapling at the roadside island near Sarkari Karmachari Hospital. Leaders of Shahbagh Thana BNP and local affiliated organizations were present at the event.
