A pedestrian named Anwar Hossain (55) was killed after being hit by a bus in Abdullahpur area of Uttara in the capital.
The accident took place around 11:00am on Saturday. Police have since seized the bus involved in the incident.
The deceased Anwar, son of the late Nazim Uddin from Mahasthangarh village in Shibganj, Bogra, had been living with his family in the Abdullahpur area due to work. He worked supplying water at a fish market in Abdullahpur.
His nephew, Shahinur Islam, said that after finishing work at the market in the morning, Anwar went to a hotel near Abdullahpur bus stand for a meal. After eating, while crossing the road, he was hit by a speeding bus and thrown onto the road with severe injuries.
He was first taken to Uttara Bangladesh Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Kurmitola General Hospital. Around 4:30pm, he was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
Shahinur said the passenger bus of Islam Paribahan was seized with the help of locals, but the driver managed to flee.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue.
