In a gesture of appreciation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) distributed Eid allowances to its sanitation workers and religious personnel, including imams and muezzins.
DSCC administrator and freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam formally distributed the allowances at two different programmes held at the city corporation’s Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday.
Earlier on March 15, the Prime Minister’s Office handed over funds to city corporation administrators as a mark of respect and solidarity with sanitation workers.
A total of 4,950 sanitation workers under DSCC received Tk 4,000 each, amounting to Tk 2.475 crore.
Administrator Salam personally distributed the cash to the workers during the ceremony.
Addressing the sanitation workers, he said, ‘Just as the Prime Minister has given you this Eid gift, your responsibility is to give our city the gift of a ‘Clean City, Green City.’
In a separate event, DSCC also distributed Eid allowances to religious personnel from its own fund. 1,870 imams received Tk 3,000 each, while 1,870 muezzins received Tk 1,500 each, bringing the total allocation to Tk 84.15 lakh.
At a recent event, the city administrator addressed imams and muezzins, saying, “Imams must take a leadership role in raising public awareness about municipal waste management and mosquito control.”
He also sought the cooperation and guidance of the imams and muezzins in fostering civic consciousness to build a cleaner city.
The event was attended by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, Secretary Mohammad Nasim Ahmed, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahabubur Rahman Talukdar, along with other senior officials of the organization.
