Four staff members sustained burn injuries in a fire reportedly triggered by an electrical short circuit during air-conditioning repair work at Dhaka Regency Hotel in the capital’s Khilkhet area on Friday morning.
The injured were rescued and rushed to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
They have been identified as Md Mansur Ali, 32; Md Abdul Matin, 67; Mohammad Mahi, 17; and Md Abdul Jalil, 67—all employees of the hotel.
Md Imran, a colleague, said the fire broke out suddenly while they were working on an air conditioner on the ground floor of the hotel.
The blaze left the four workers with varying degrees of burns.
Assistant Professor Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, residential doctor at the Burn Institute’s emergency department, confirmed that Mansur suffered burns on 21% of his body, Abdul Matin 5%, Mahi 5%, and Abdul Jalil 7%.
He added that one of the victims has been admitted for treatment, while the other three remain under close observation.
